PATRICK CARROLL, Contemporary Realist Artist

 

Born 1949, Bathurst

Patrick painted from an early age but decided to take on full-time painting as a career in 1974. 

 

Apart from staging over 40 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows Patrick has also received in excess of 100 awards and commendations for his paintings, many of which have been short listed for some of the most prestigious Art Awards in Australia.

 

These include:

 

  • Wynne Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales

  • The Blake Prize for religious art

  • The ACTA Maritime Award, winning this prize in 1987

  • The Sydney Morning Herald Art Prize, declared the winner in 1990

 

Selected highlights of Patrick’s artistic career:

 

  • 1973  - commenced career as a professional artist

  • 1978   - Illustrated   ’Around the Boree Log’  a selection of verse by John O’Brien

  • 1995  -  held a solo exhibition ‘ Gravitas’a Survey Exhibition of paintings at the Manly Art  Gallery and Museum

  • 2000  - Dubbo Regional Gallery held the exhibition ‘The Bushfire Series Black’

  • 2002  - Manly Art Gallery and Museum held the exhibition  ‘Luna Park is Yellow’

  • 2003  - Gosford Regional Gallery held the exhibition ‘The Bushfire Series Black’

  • 2005   - Shoalhaven City Art Gallery held the exhibition ‘The Bushfire Series Black’

  • 2005  - Artarmon Galleries Group Exhibition ‘New Paintings’

  • 2006  - Gosford Regional Gallery held the exhibition ‘ The Entrance, The Transition: A Metaphor for Change’

 

  • 2007 – 2018 

 

 In between these career highlights and struggles all professional artists go through, Patrick travels extensively to search for new and challenging subject matter.  He has found inspiration not only in his homeland but in France, Amsterdam, Ireland, Berlin, Venice and Uruguay.

 

Travelling schedules have not prevented Patrick from preparing work for exhibitions during these last twelve years, namely:

 

  • 5 solo shows at WAGNER ART GALLERY Sydney

  • ‘10 Years On’ (2014) from the ‘Venice Winterlude’ at ARTARMON GALLERIES – the series commencing at Artarmon with the Mudgee Winterlude (2000),  

         Gundagai Winterlude (2002) and the Venice Winterlude (2005)

  • 4 solo exhibition at a Private Gallery, ORANGE 

  • 1 more solo exhibition at GOSFORD REGIONAL ART GALLERY
