PETER  LAVERTY (1926 – 2013)


Born England 1926.  

Lived in Australia since 1951. 

Painter, art educator and gallery director.  

Works in oils, watercolour and graphic media.  

Studied at Winchester School of Art, England. 

Taught at Winchester School of Art, England.  

Taught at the National Art School Sydney from 1952-1971.  

Held several positions in the School including Head of the Division of Fine Arts 1968-1970 and 

Head of the National Art School and State Supervisor of Art in 1971.  

Director of the Art Gallery New South Wales 1971-1977. 

Guide Lecturer at the Art Gallery of New South Wales 1954 -1961. 

Peter has been a Member of several Art Societies, International Society of Art Critics as well as

 serving on numerous committees for the Arts and a judge of numerous art competitions and prizes.

Painted full-time since 1978.
