Biographical Notes

ROD MILGATE
Born Kyogle 1934
Trained at the National Art School 1952 to 1955
Awarded B.A.(Art Ed.) 1981, M.A. (Research) 1984, Ph.D(Creative Arts) 1989
Was Professor of Art, College of Fine Arts, University of NSW 1992 and
(Hon.)D.Litt. World Academy of Arts and Culture.
Between 1964 and 1996 won more than 15 awards including SMH Heritage Art Award, Karolyi Foundations Residency (Venice, France), Blake Prize for Religious Art on three occasions and a place in the Studio at Cite Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).

Since 1962 Rod has held more that 40 solo exhibitions in Australia and overseas and has shown in more than 80 mixed exhibitions.

Between 1966 and 1998 there were Writings and Publication: 10 Stage Plays, 2 Novels, publication of poetry, various commissioned articles including Art Criticisms for The Australian and Sun newspapers

The most recent exposition, “Journey into Self”, was held in the GOSFORD REGIONAL GALLERY 2002 to 2003 in conjunction with a Stage Production of a Milgate Play and a Public Recital of his Poetry.

Dr Rod Milgate has won many prizes for painting including the Blake Prize for Religious Art on three occasions and he is a Patron of the Multi Arts Confederation, Central Coast NSW.

Most recently Rod conducted a Painting Master Class at the Grafton Artsfest in 2001 and was awarded the inaugural Joan Johnson Poetry Award (Fellowship of Australian Writers) and the Central Coast Writer’s Festival (Members) Award – both in 2002.
