DAVID COLLINS

DAVID COLLINS carried out his visual art training at Hornsby Technical College 1977 to 1978 and at The Canberra School of Art, 1979 to 1980. In 1982 he completed a Graduate Diploma of Education at the Sydney Institute of Education.

In 1990 and 1991 David held two exhibitions of paintings and drawings at the Ewart Gallery in Willoughby and during 1995 exhibited pastels and gouaches at the James Harvey Gallery in Balmain.

David has also participated in a number of group shows. At the 1994 ‘Arcadian Artists and Artisans’ Open Day he exhibited works that were completed on an eight month journey through Central Australia, the Kimberley and other regions of Western Australia. In between journeyings one of David’s major subject and influence on his work over several years has been the Lower Hawkesbury and surrounding bushland.

David’s first solo exhibition with Artarmon Galleries was in 1997, then again in 2000 with “Inland Sea”. David shared an exhibition titled “Water’s Way” with artist Robert Griffiths in 2001, with Ana Pollak in 2003 and in 2005 with Georgina Worth. During mid-year 2004 David travelled extensively in Northern China working in the Art Department at the University for Minorities in Lanzhou Province. During 2006 David has embarked on a six month painting trip out around the Broken Hill region of New South Wales. An exhibition at Artarmon Galleries of David’s exciting inland paintings is to be launched by ecologist Jocelyn Howell (formerly of The Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney) who will talk on the plants and animals of the Central Australian landscape glimpsed in David’s work.
